Local activity robot-recommender
Jyllands-Posten is one of Denmark’s biggest newspapers, and their local section in the second-largest city, Aarhus, wanted to increase user and reader-centered local content and to create more engagement with their readers.
A real-time local activity robot recommender based on current weather conditions and an activity log was created on IC Robotic’s editor in close collaboration with several partners. It has provided Jyllands-Posten with a promising tool that highlights the significant advantages of combining (real-time) data, journalistic visions, and added user value.
“The collaboration between IC Robotic and Jyllands-Posten has shown the promising potential you’ll find when you combine real-time data with user-centered content and journalistic ideas. The interaction between data and engaging content creates added value to our readers, where the focus isn’t on traditional journalism but instead on guiding our readers with interesting content.”
– Esben Larsen Mikkelsen, journalist at Jyllands-Posten
Cozy family time or exhilarating outdoor activities
You look out of the window, the sun is shining and the weather looks good. You start planning today’s outdoor activities with your kids after checking both a weather forecast and activity calendars from different sources. Now, with the local activity robot recommender from JP Aarhus you don’t have to worry about checking different sources.
The robot recommender is based on weather data from yr.no, and an activity calendar from local authorities making sure you don’t opt for outdoor activities when the forecast says it will rain later (unless you want to do as Peppa Pig and jump in mud puddles) or that you go kitesurfing when there is a lot of wind. With real-time weather data, the robot recommender makes sure you get the most out of your day and planned activities.
Close collaboration with several partners
The real-time local activity robot recommender is born in close collaboration with employees from Jyllands-Posten Aarhus, Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX), IC Robotic, and developer Søren Pedersen. The robot recommender has been tailored to fit Jyllands-Posten’s tone of voice and journalistic integrity.
Jyllands-Posten can implement the robot recommender in relevant stories as a widget enhancing reader time and engagement and helping and inspiring locals to explore more of the city they inhabit.
